INSPIRATION: PAMPAS GRASS
I DID IT! after months of sleeping on the floor i FINALLY bought a bed frame! i was in a bit of a rut… didn’t feel motivated or inspired to do much of anything related to my room so night after night, i would go to bed, look at the sad mattress on the floor and go to sleep. for me, a bed frame made all the difference and now that my room (and life?) are back in order i’ve been looking for inspiration to freshen up my bedroom and i think i found it…PAMPAS GRASS. i love the light and subtle presence they have in a room. think i might ned to pick some up this weekend…stay tuned!
MOOD BOARD: SUMMER LOVIN’
after polyvore sold their soul… discontinued their website leaving no trace of its existence, i had to look elsewhere for a creative outlet where i could organize all of my thoughts, ideas and inspiration. a friend had told me about canva, a website she used frequently so i decided to give it a try. while it doesn’t offer a community like polyvore, canva has all the design allure and then some! whatever your purpose for creating may be; social media, campaigns, presentations, i mean it when i say it… canva has it ALL. i created this mood board using canva because summer is upon us and i’m having a moment with all things made of straw. sue me.
EASTON RHETT CURTISS
I’M GOING TO BE AN AUNTIE! kenna, the soon to be mama is one of my oldest friends. we grew up together, first on a cul de sac in eastbrook, then only a street away after we both moved to a different neighborhood. our families (and the lewis fam) were (and still are) always at an arms length of each other. it’s hard to mention one without the other, it’s been the mitchell, mccarthy and lewis family for a long time now… kenna, taylor and i even share the same tattoo to commemorate our lifelong friendship- because it’s not forever until you’ve got ink under your skin right?! i’m actually looking forward to showing our grandchildren our saggy tattoo after we all grow old… but first comes your son, baby easton. he’s due february 9, 2018 and he is already so loved. he’s one lucky dude to have you and casey as his parents.
last weekend we showered the hell out of mama and her baby boy, surrounded by friends, family and so much love.
you were able to create your own trail mix at the “trail mix bar” which meant NO RAISINS, HALLELUJAH! i’m not saying that my trail mix only consisted of m&ms but it was about 90% m&m’s and 10% popcorn. i really enjoyed my trail mix freedom.
after folks were able to get some food and drinks, we let the games begin…
THE COLOR FACTORY
and now for the main event… the event we planned our whole trip (and outfits) around…the color factory! this pop up museum is an interactive experience encouraging folks to create those instagrammable moments (RIP kodak) and play with the hues in each room. under the creative direction of leah rosenberg and the art direction and design of erin jang, you find yourself completely immersed in the work of multiple artists. from tom stayte’s room filled with selfies to the giant yellow ball pit filled with 207,000 balls…
…get ready, this place is pretty spectacular.
ETSY: IN FULL LOOM DESIGN & CO.
good golly miss dolly, i’ve opened an etsy shop! it all started as a hobby, something to cure the 9-5 routine, to create and be creative. each piece is designed by me and handmade with lots of love. with support from friends and family, i’ve decided to open shop and thus created in full loom design & co.
you can shop all the pieces here.
THE MUSEUM OF ICE CREAM
last weekend, i went to the museum of ice cream – i have the sprinkles in my pants to prove it. upon our arrival, we were greeted with a bubble gum pink exterior and some bubble gum pink staff (ice cream “experts” as they described online). before we entered, the staff explained a little bit about the art and food inside and what exactly we were getting ourselves into. it felt more like a warning, as if they wanted to tell us what they had seen on the battlefield of ice cream but they couldn’t. they left us with a “HAVE A GOOD TIME!” and then we were off!
do you have any idea how hard it was for me to not sing “hollaback girl” by gwen stefani?
this mochi changed my life. yes, i’m being overly dramatic but mint chocolate chip mochi is life changing. the staff gave each of us our mochi and explained how the mint was being grown from a cacao soil which meant that it was essentially being grown from chocolate (straight out of willy wonka or a whole foods store). i don’t think anyone cared that much about the mint process except for me… in that moment. i regret not asking for seconds but we’ve all seen oliver twist.
black cookie dough. it’s a thing and it’s amazing and the dude giving it out was hilarious. he made sure none of us had black in our teeth before heading to the next room. he’s a true friend.
like i said… i’m still finding sprinkles in my clothes.
CHOCOLATE CHIP BANANA BREAD
for the past month i haven’t really spent a weekend at home- between traveling for the holidays and spending time in orange county, my poor bed started to wonder if i’d ever come back. this weekend i decided to stay in la to clean and reorganize my apartment because “new year, new me” is in full flux… yesterday morning, i did laundry, put new sheets on my bed, dusted my shelves and had a dance party because what else do you do when you clean?? and then-i got hungry. not really wanting to brave the sunday brunch hour, i decided to make something at home. so i pulled a cookbook off the bookshelf and made some chocolate chip banana bread. *warning* this banana bread is like crack, please bake responsibly-only if you are a strong and independent woman…i mean only if you are strong willed… yeah, will power.
ingredients: 1 1/3 cups light brown sugar-2 eggs-1 cup mashed banana-2 1/4 cups flour-1 teaspoon baking powder-1 teaspoon baking soda-1 teaspoon ground cinnamon-1 teaspoon ground ginger-1 stick plus 2 tablespoons unsalted butter melted-semi sweet chocolate chips-
preheat oven to 325ºf. put the sugar and eggs in a freestanding electric mixer with a paddle attachment (or use a handheld electric whisk) and beat until well incorporated. beat in the mashed banana.
add the flour, baking powder, baking soda, cinnamon and ginger to the sugar mixture. mix it thoroughly until all the dry ingredients have been incorporated into the egg mixture. pour in the melted butter and beat until all the ingredients are well mixed.
pour the batter into the prepared loaf pan and smooth over with a palette knife. bake in the preheated oven for about 1 hour or until firm to the touch and a skewer inserted in the center comes out clean. let the cake cool slightly in the pan before turning out onto a wire rack to cool completely.
A SEDONA CHRISTMAS
i’m finally getting around to posting some bits and pieces of our christmas in sedona. we had a packed house of 9 people and 5 dogs and i wouldn’t have it any other way! our first order of business-grocery shopping. every year my sister cooks christmas eve dinner, christmas day breakfast and christmas day dinner, not to mention the goodies and desserts in between! she’s far too humble to say that she is good at cooking but she is and i’ll shout it from the rooftops if i have to-her cooking is my favorite part about the holidays.
courtney needed all hands on deck in the kitchen but because of my notoriously bad cooking skills, i sat this one out and got a head start on the wine. my aunt and uncle live near the local winery so we picked up a bottle… or four.
christmas morning we woke up to a winter wonderland which made for an extra special holiday.
homemade muffins, cinnamon rolls and chocolate chip bread thanks to chef courtney!
TUTTICONFETTI
can you be addicted to buying art? because i think i am…or maybe i’m addicted to shopping (that’s me inadvertently admitting i’m a shopaholic but let’s not linger on that for too long). i’ve begun settling into my new place which means i’ve started the “let’s make this house a home!” phase. i’m filling all my blank walls with photos, prints, macramé, mirrors -did i leave out anything? i’m also trying to tackle how to hang this beautiful yet enormously heavy painting my dear friend made but i’m renting and the thought of drilling holes into the wall makes me break into a sweat. anyways…i think my art addiction began when i went to austin a couple months ago. my brother and i stumbled upon this store that supported local crafters and artists and i found (narrowed it down to) two prints that i absolutely had to take home with me. since then i’ve been on the hunt for some cool pieces for my new place, which is what brings me to tutticonfetti! i just recently discovered the talented marta colomer of tutticonfetti and i can’t get enough of her illustrations. i love seeing these characters like this and i can’t wait to welcome jimi to his new home!
